ON Semiconductor's automotive lighting solutions illuminate inside and outside the car

With the development of the automotive industry, more and more advanced lighting technologies are getting more applications in automobiles. Among them, light-emitting diode ( LED ) lighting has the advantages that halogen lamps and xenon lamps can't match, such as long life, fast response time, energy saving and environmental protection, etc., which accelerates the pace of adoption in automotive lighting.

As the premier supplier of high-performance silicon solutions for energy-efficient electronic products, ON Semiconductor continues to focus on automotive lighting applications such as automotive headlamps, dashboard backlighting, interior lighting, door lighting and taillights, based on advanced semiconductor technology. Provides a wide range of solutions including standard and custom products, such as stepper motor drivers, LED drivers , xenon lamp drivers, halogen lamp drivers, LED backlight drivers, etc.; especially in Xenon lamp driver ASICs for headlamp adjustment and deflection Leading the market in terms of (ASIC) and stepper drives that are the de facto standard.

Car headlight development trend

At present, the headlights of most cars on the road are still halogen lamps, mainly providing high beam and low beam (HB) functions. Among them, the low beam typically consumes 55 W and the light output is about 1,000 lumens. In comparison, the introduction of high-intensity gas discharge lamp (HID) technology for more than 10 years has a power consumption of 35 W and an optical output of approximately 3,500 lumens. Due to the high luminous intensity of the HID lamp, there is a risk of glare to the driver of the vehicle. For safety reasons, some countries require a low beam with a horizontal position automatic adjustment function and a high pressure cleaning device. Over time, more and more HID lamps will incorporate the high beam function into the dual xenon lamp solution.

As energy-saving requirements become more stringent, while halogen technology is still used for headlamp lighting, automotive design is increasingly turning to LED lighting. LED lighting offers enhanced styling options for "instant" illumination, allowing brightness control from 0% to 100% power.

Another important trend in automotive headlamp applications is the adaptive headlamp system (AFS) that provides beam deflection to optimize cornering illumination, and adaptive headlamps (ADB) to adjust the beam in real time to the actual environment. Stepper motors provide control for AFS and ADB.

ON Semiconductor offers a broad lineup of automotive headlamp lighting applications ranging from general lamp driver solutions to stepper drives, LED drivers and xenon lamp drivers.
